Yes, I was at the same place last year.
I think it can be a exciting to be there in same time in coming years. Last years new bird species have arrive in this area. It can be very interesting to follow the changes in the future.
This area is very quiet. Many bird species in this recording do not make a loud sound. Open space like this swallow much of the sound, especially when listen close to the ground and most of the sound source are on the ground in high grass. I did not hear all this bird songs while I recording this session. This recording is highly amplified which is probably best audible when aircraft pass by with high rumble sound. For me, just listen on the ground, this aircraft was hardly audible.

I remember your trip out there last year – well done for being so motivated to record that early in the morning. Maybe it’s psychological projection but the birds sound as though they belong to quite a desolate place. Very atmospheric.

Eins og vanalega er ég aldrei sáttur. Ég mun því reyna gera enn betur næst. Vandinn er þessi mikla fjarlægð við fuglana. Það verður því að hækka allt í botn sem er mikill galli. Fyrir utan mikið suð sem ég hef ekki enn tök á því að hreinsa þá brenglast hljóðin í svona miklum vegalengdum. Ef svo hreyfir vind þá brenglast hljóðin enn meira og jafnvel hverfa. Þetta eru að stórum hluta hljóð sem erfitt er að heyra með berum eyrum á staðnum.
Ég held að það sem þú telur vera Himbrima sé liklega Lómur.
Það gerðist einmitt þessa nótt eða síðar um morguninn að þeir komu nokkuð nærri hljóðnemunum svo skynja mátti hreyfingar þeirra á vatninu. Og þar sem allt var í botni þá eyðilagðist upptakan af tilkomumiklum söng þeirra. Það hefði hugsanlega tekist að ná hljóðunum óbjöguðum ef ég hefði tekið upp með DSD sniði, en það er óhugsandi í svona löngum upptökum.
Ég held að Sound devices 744 ætti að geta náð svona uppákomum slysalaust. Það tæki skartar mun betri og áheyranlegri “limiter” en Korg tækið.

Þetta er hrein snilld. Þú hefur náð fjölmörgum fuglum eins og nokkrum andartegundum, grágæs, himbrima og svo framvegis. Sennilega er himbrimahljóðritið með því besta sem hljóðritað hefur verið hér á landi síðan árið 1954. Synd er hvað þoturnar eyðileggja hljóðritið á nokkrum stöðum. Það er hægt að laga án þess að spilla nokkru.

Yes, this rumbling echo make this recording special. I like it too.
But at the same time it is something strange with the sound. Probably because I have not use this microphone very often and I do not know the sound….or probably is it the foam windscreen I use this time. I am both happy and disappointing with the sound.

I think the location turned out to be magnificent! The recoridng is really spacious and I just love the rumbling echo, especially after the first loud bangs.
